Identifying your Soil Type
Posted on December 17th, 2011 by ma
Classification of soils is often based on the texture and size of the particles that make up the soil, as well as on the mineral and nutrient content of each type. Before you choose soil for your garden, it can help to understand how different types of soil are identified. Knowing whether your soil type is clay, sand, silt, loam, peat or chalk will help you choose the right plants for your garden and maintain them in good health. Another important aspect of soil type is the pH (acidity or alkalinity). This will also affect the type of plants you can grow and how you manage your soil. You must know that clay soils can suffer drainage problems and may not suit plants that need free draining conditions. Soil plays a very important role in gardening and plantation and if a wrong type of soil is used, plants may cease to grow. Among all the types of soils loamy soil is thought of as an ideal soil to do cultivation.
